On 14 June 2017, a high-rise fire broke out in the 24-storey Grenfell Tower block of flats in North Kensington, West London. The government implemented an independent review that found that the regulatory system for high-rise residential buildings was not fit for purpose. The Building Safety Act 2022 looks to deliver, through a risk proportionate approach, the biggest improvement to building safety for a generation.
Working closely with fund management companies for many years, our customers had an immediate risk to their portfolio of buildings and needed to understand, plan and action any works occurring as a result of the Governments interventions.
Adapting our extensive experience in construction we developed a Facades Division, focused on undertaking the fire remediation works of all buildings with non-compliant building façade materials.
Not confined to any singular façade system, we have managed the investigation and delivery of Aluminium / Steel / Composite panels, Render, HPL, Spandrel Panels, Timber Clad, Terracotta and Brick Slips, along with full cavity renewals (incl Cement Board, Insulation, Fire Barriers and EDPM’s). Our success in delivering for Private Equity Funds and Student Accommodation providers has now progressed into works covered by the Building Safety Fund managed by the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
Our services
• Initial investigation of the façade, opening up key areas of the building – to enable our Fire Consultants to risk assess the façade and formulate a Remediation Plan.
• CostPlan and establish Site Logistics for the works to be completed – to allow the building users to understand the disruption and timescales
• Progress Detailed Design – to satisfy statutory bodies, including Building Control and the Fire Service, along with our own Fire Consultants and PI Insurers.
• Deliver the solutions on site, where required, maintaining budgets, timescales and Public Protection.
• Complete the Works to achieve the required certification - EWS1 Certificates A1 to B2, depending on requirements.
